Android phones that have large display screens quickly become the norm and many consumers are now enjoying a better, bigger view, especially when playing games and watching videos.

Because of this consumer trend, Apple started to introduce larger phones along with the smaller versions, the iPhone 6 being the initiator of the larger handsets series. However, Apple did not want to lose one of their phone’s redeeming features, which is to be utilised with only one hand that is only possible because of its small scope of surface.

Because of this, Apple has addressed this issue with the larger phones and provides a solution for people who can’t easily touch the icons of their iPhones.

Starting with iOS 8, Apple sets up a new feature: the Reachability mode
, which will essentially help you use your iPhone with one hand. The contents shown in the top half of the screen will descend at the bottom, making it easier for you to access it.

1. Go to the Settings app and tap on General.

2. Then, tap on Accessibility.

3. Scroll down until you see ‘Reachability’ and turn it on.

Now that Reachability is on, here’s how to use this convenient feature every day:

For iPhone 6, 6s, 7, 7 Plus, 8 and 8 Plus:

One way is to tap the home button thrice. Make sure that you don’t press it, as it will launch app switcher. Just give your home button three gentle taps and you’re good to go.

You can also use assistive touch. Tap it, navigate to Device, choose More, and finally, tap Reachability.

This is what your screen will look like when Reachability is activated:

Now, we’ll proceed with iPhone X. Because it opts out of the home button to make way for full face display and Face ID, most users thought that Apple also removed the Reachability feature. iPhone X still has its Reachability feature, although it is turned off by default so you have to go to Settings to turn it on.

1. Go to Settings and navigate to General.

2. Tap Accessibility and turn the Reachability feature on.

3. Touch the gesture bar. It’s the small black bar at the bottom of the screen.

4. Swipe down and you will see that the contents will be displayed at the bottom half of the screen.

5. To bring back the full screen user interface, swipe up from the gesture bar or tap an area outside of the active UI surface.

With the Reachability feature you can maximise the use of your phone. Even if you will not use it often, it can be handy when you’re in a hurry or feeling lazy!
